What’s an extruder?
The extruder melts small particles of plastic and push them through a barrel until it exits through a nozzle, producing a continuous line with a shape determined by the nozzle.
What can you make with it?
You can mold this single line of plastic with your hands while it’s hot (with gloves obviously!), or you can use a mold to help you shape your creation. Additionally, with a filament winder, that helps keep the diameter of the extruded plastic perfectly consistent, you can produce filament for 3D printers.
What do you need to work with it?
- Plastic pellets or shredded plastic.
- Moulds (Optional. Doesn’t need to be fancy. Just a cardboard box would be suitable to create a basket)
- Filament winder (If you want to make 3D printer filament)
- Heat-proof gloves and other hand tools to help you mould.
- Single phase power.
How can you get an extruder?
